Leaving aside town Rishton (45 km, 1 hour)

Rishtan is a city in the east of the Republic of Uzbekistan. One of the most ancient cities of the Fergana Valley on the Great Silk Road. Since ancient times, it is known as the largest center in Central Asia for the production of unique glazed ceramics. The traditions of the art of ceramics in many neighboring ceramic centers were almost completely lost by the end of the 20th century, and only in Rishtan (this is its phenomenon) did the craft develop steadily, retaining its stylistic integrity over the centuries. In Central Asia there are quite a few remarkable, very distinctive regional centers of ceramics, such as Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, Khujand, Gijduvan, Andijan, Kanibadam, Shakhrisabz, Kulyab, Gurumsaray, however, from ancient times the honorary title of the “Main Pottery Workshop” of Central Asia is worn by ancient Rishtan .

None of the ceramic centers of Central Asia have such a variety of product shapes as in Rishtan. Lyagany - dishes for pilaf, scythe and shokos - bowls for soup-shurpy, huge jugs-hum for storage of grain and oil, butter churn, deep vessels with lids for sour milk - katkulok, jugs-oftoba for ablution before prayer, bowls, jugs kuzacha for water, vessels in the form of a fantastic bird - urdak - the flight of sophisticated fantasy of the coolers knows no limit. The shape of the dishes, characteristic only for Rishtan, has also been preserved. These are ritual vessels for washing hands - it will give shu, in the form of a unfolded flat bowl on a low hollow pan-tank for draining water.

The current Khoja Ilgor mosque erected in the 19th century on the site of the ancient cemetery of the same name, in whose territory the only ancient cone-shaped korikhon in Central Asia preserved at the end of the 8th century (ziyatraggi is a holy site) has been preserved .
